Yet, no adequate methodology exists that provides reliable predictions of how environmental degradation will affect these ecosystems at a relevant level of biological organization. Dietary TAG source and level affect performance and lipase expression in larval sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) ArchiMer

The influence of dietary TAG source (fish oil, triolein, and coconut oil) and level (7.5 and 15% of the diet) on growth, lipase activity, and mRNA level was studied in sea bass larvae, from mouth opening until day 24 and from day 37 to 52. Fish oil and triolein induced better growth in both experiments, this being significant at a higher dietary level. Coconut oil significantly decreased growth at the higher level, possibly as the result of an excessive supply of medium-chain TAG. When organisms are unable to feed ad libitum they may be more susceptible to negative effects of environmental stressors such as ocean acidification and warming (OAW). We reared sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) at 15 or 20 °C and at ambient or high PCO2 (650 versus 1750 µatm PCO2; pH = 8.1 or 7.6) at ad libitum feeding and observed no discernible effect of PCO2 on the size-at-age of juveniles after 277 (20 °C) and 367 (15 °C) days. Influence of dietary live yeast on European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) larval development ArchiMer

Recent results have demonstrated that live yeast in diets improved gut maturation in sea bass larvae. In this study, we tested the absence and two levels of live yeast in sea bass larvae diets. Specimens were fed from time of mouth opening to 37 days after hatching a diet of 0%, 1.1%, or 5.7% wet weight of live yeast (Debaryomyces hansenii CBS 8339). Yeast incorporation improved survival 10%, and reduced malformed larvae. In groups fed 1.1% yeast, only 1% of larvae were malformed, compared to 14% in the control group. Chez les poissons, le terme de larve désigne les plus jeunes individus entre le moment où ils sont capables d'ingérer de la nourriture exogène et celui où ils prennent la forme de l'adulte. Le stade larvaire suit le stade embryonnaire et précède le stade juvénile. II correspond à une période de transformation morphologique et physiologique continue de l'animal. La larve partage avec l'embryon certaines caractéristiques comme une très petite taille, un taux de croissance spécifique très élevé et une différenciation incomplète de certains organes.
